Entrepreneurship Diaries: Part1 - The initial days

Obviously, I am not the first to tell you that starting your own venture is exciting but not easy. Everyone knows this. But experiencing this is the real fun. It’s been four months since I started the entrepreneurial journey as an Actuarial Consultant. When I look back and reflect on these four months, the journey is worth its effort and the memories are worth preserving for life….the best one being thinking, ‘Where the hell is my green tea?’ and not being able to call the pantry! My wife, you ask? She’s at work, and not taking many leaves these days!

Then come the smaller problems. One text or email does not arrange your flight tickets and cabs anymore. One phone call to your team member can’t get that report ready by EOD today. And you can no longer forward the non-disclosure agreement to your legal team for a review.

It’s quite an effort to build such an ecosystem and it takes time. Well, it is taking time. And the most important one, you are not receiving that salary promptly at the end of each month.

But the sheer euphoria of living your dream is inexplicable. You now have time flexibility, location flexibility, and the liberty to choose the kind of work you want to do. You certainly feel happy when you receive a call from an unknown number to discuss project ideas that you couldn’t even fathom before. And happier knowing that the call is not to offer you yet another credit card.

It is not all fun and games, though. I have to take it one day at a time and build brick by brick to keep it from overwhelming me. Optimizing the time and effort is the key. While the activity is current, it gets converted to revenue only later into the future. But in present value terms, it’s worth its strive. The Actuarial mindset, of course 😊
